Bike sharing in the Netherlands develops less rapidly than in other countries. A Dutch invention may possibly change that. Everyone can share its own (privately owned) bike (s).
The system can be implemented without infrastructure like paying columns, bicycle clips or extra storage facilities. The innovation is the Mobi Lock , a theft-proof lock with a cable that replaces the traditional bicycle lock system and which fits on all types of bikes. Instead of a key, the user unlocks it with an app on the smartphone. The user creates an account on the website or app Mobi Lock. Then the user sees all available bikes at different locations and can reserve one at the time. By entering the number of the bike on the app, the user opens the lock and drives away. The smartphone functions like a digital bike key.
The great advantage of the bike share system Mobi Lock is that no major adjustments are needed, and uses the existing infrastructure.
Mobi Lock is now approaching companies, municipalities and home care organizations to ask them to share their staff bicycles. Also bicycle rental companies in the tourism industry, campgrounds, hotels, parks, airports, park and ride locations, car parks or industrial sites with park management are an important target group.
