The proportion of alcohol offenders among youth cyclists is high to very high. As the night progresses this rises to over 80% and increases the average blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit of 0.5 g / l.
The study was conducted under young people traffic users when they go out on Thursday and Saturday nights in the cities of The Hague and Groningen.
The number of cycling young people (15-29 years) that in weekend nights after an accident is hospitalized has been rising for several decades; in 50% of the cases this is due to alcohol intake. At the same time the study also states that alcohol consumption among car drivers has declined during weekend nights with two-thirds since 2002: 98% driving sober.
