With a smartphone in your pocket, you can realize your green wave according to Siemens.
The idea is that the cyclist has installed on his smartphone the SiBike application. Through GPS, the position, speed and direction of the cyclist is determined. When the cyclist passes a trigger point, a signal is sent to the traffic controller. Which then converts the light to green or extends the green time. On the same principle, numerous variants are possible: priority to groups of cyclists can be given, when several of them have turned on the app. Also other vehicles can be given preferential treatment in this way.
In the simulation the idea works, according to Siemens. Siemens has started a pilot project in de German city of Bamberg and negotiates with the Dutch city of Breda to start a second pilot.
